Introducing Rukhsana's Homemade Garam Masala
Garam (hot) masala (mixture of spices) is an earthy and robust spice mix of Indian cuisine. The whole spices of garam masala are usually dry roasted and then ground to bring out more flavour and aroma. This aromatic spice adds warmth, sweetness, floral notes and a bit of heat to any dish it is added to, as it has a mixture of cardamoms, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg etc.
In India, Garam masala is a reflection of different parts of the country it comes from, meaning it is made using different recipes. Learning to mix spices is a matter of pride in India and every cook tries to make the best spice blend!
